10th-Jul-2006 06:26 pm - First day of training!
I started training for the marathon today. An easy 2 mile run this morning at an 11 minute mile pace. It feels like a LONG way to 26!

I registered for my first marathon! Im running in the Richmond Marathon on November 11, which gives me about 3 months to train for it after the bar exam - I think that will be enough time.

As extra incentive, I also registered for the Maymont Half-Marathon in Richmond on September 30.

Im pretty nervous about it, but if I can finish I'll be thrilled.

I'm seriously considering running the Richmond Marathon. Its in November, so I think I would have pleanty of time to train for it. Has anyone run a marathon before? If so, are there any good websites out there that I could check out for training schedules, etc??

Thanks!
30th-Mar-2006 02:02 pm - Ouch!
For the past week or so I've been having lots of troubles with knee pain while running. The only thought I have is that maybe I need new shoes? Does anyone have any other thoughts about what could be causing this? Even the elliptical was giving my knees trouble yesterday...

Yesterday I was sick. Boo.
So I didn't go for my run.
With only a week and a half till the half-marathon, I made up for the run today.
I was slow (but that seems reasonable).

5 miles: 54 minutes (a little bit of walking in the middle)

To make up for today's I will do some cardio on the elliptical, I hope.
26th-Mar-2006 10:00 pm - The weekend workout
Saturday I went running, here are the stats:

5.65 miles: 54 minutes
10.5 miles: 103 minutes
11.3 miles: 112 minutes
12.? miles: 129 minutes

So... I basically didn't have the energy, specifically in my quads, to keep it up. But the race is in 2 weeks, and it is 13.1 miles.

Today, I walked for a half hour twice. I couldn't handle much else. Darn quads.

Tomorrow is a lifting day.

Yesterday it warmed up enough to melt the ice, so I went for a run outside. 5 miles without stopping. 47 minutes. Hooray! (Ok, so I'm slow, at least it's faster than I was running with my jogging buddies)

I didn't make it to lifting yesterday, so today I will do it. Usually today is my "day off," but I'm happy with this substitution.
23rd-Mar-2006 10:46 am - Cold
In this snow, it is hard to motivate myself.
I am training for a half-marathon this coming April 9...

I missed my Tuesday run because of the snow, and took my (short) Wednesday run on a treadmill.
Treadmills are my enemy, I cannot stay on them long enough.

Today will be tough--can I run 5 miles on a treadmill? I don't think I will.
Here's to accountability (or snow melting). I have to run those 5 miles today.
And lift. (Thursday is my hard day.)

I have noticed lately that it's possible for running to take over all the entries in my LJ. I thought about creating a new username for running-related entries, but realized that journal would mostly consist of my wondering about various running issues to myself. So I thought I may as well wonder about running-related issues in a community of runners.

I'm a newbie, but all experience levels are welcome. Feel free to post tips, random thoughts, and questions. Post about your highs, lows, plateaus, whatever.

If you'd like to see a link added, please let me know and I'll be happy to. Also, share any races you've run so I can add them to the accomplishments post.

Thanks and happy running!
